Everybody knew my name
Then I showed up with a white cane
Same old streets, same old town
Felt like everybody watched me now

Tried to fake it, tried to cope
Walked around on pride and hope
Hit a lamppost, hit a sign
Told myself that I was fine

Parked cars jumping out at me
At least that’s how it seemed to be
Bruised my shoulder, scraped my knee
Still said, “Nah, that’s not for me”

I didn’t want it in my hand
I didn’t want to be that man
But every stumble made it plain
I couldn’t keep playing that game

Me and my white cane
Walking down the same old lane
Used to hide, now I don’t care
Everybody stops and stares

Me and my white cane
Through the rain and through the pain
Never thought we’d be this way
Me and my white cane

Started learning where to swing
Funny what a stick can bring
Found the kerbs before my face
Moved around with a little grace

No more guessing where to go
No more putting on a show
Less collisions, less surprise
More confidence before my eyes

People stared but I moved on
Funny how the fear was gone
What once felt like a neon sign
Became a lifeline of mine

The looks got smaller every day
As I found my own damn way
What I thought would bring me shame
Turned out to change the game

Me and my white cane
Walking down the same old lane
Used to hide, now I don’t care
Everybody stops and stares

Me and my white cane
Through the rain and through the pain
Never thought we’d be this way
Me and my white cane

Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!

Who was scared?
I WAS SCARED!
Who got lost?
I GOT LOST!
Who found the way?
I FOUND THE WAY!

I thought that stick would hold me back
Make me stand out on every track
Now I know what I couldn’t see
It didn’t change the world

It changed me

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh

Me and my white cane
Walking down the same old lane
Used to hide, now I don’t care
Everybody stops and stares

Me and my white cane
Through the rain and through the pain
Never thought we’d be this way
Me and my white cane

Me and my white cane
Yeah we’re rolling down the lane
Small-town whispers fade away
I’ve got better things today

Me and my white cane
Never hiding, never ashamed
From the thing I used to hate
To the thing I can’t replace

Me and my white cane!
(Hey!)

Me and my white cane!
(Hey!)

Me and my white cane!
(Hey!)

Me and my white cane!
(Hey!)

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
White cane

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
White cane

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
White cane

Me and my white cane!

Under the Floodlights

Der Text

Every day after school
There was never any doubt
Not where we’d meet
Just when we’d get out

Someone brought a football
Someone marked the goals
And before the afternoon was gone
That pitch became our world

Rain or summer sunshine
We never seemed to care
As long as there was a ball to chase
You’d always find us there

Grass-stained boots
Mud on our knees
Back then we thought
Those days would never leave

Under the floodlights
We were kings of our own town
Running after every dream
Before the sun went down

Under the floodlights
We thought we’d never fall
Funny how life changes everything
But not those nights at all

Years kept moving faster
But I still played the game
A striker chasing chances
Every Saturday the same

Then one night at training
Something felt different somehow
The ball rolled right past my feet
And I couldn’t see it now

Once became twice
Then more than I could hide
Deep down I already knew
Something had changed inside

Standing still
Watching it fade
Trying to make peace
With the choices I had to make

Under the floodlights
We were kings of our own town
Running after every dream
Before the sun went down

Under the floodlights
We thought we’d never fall
Funny how life changes everything
But not those nights at all

So I stood beside the touchline
Helping others find their way
Passing on the things I learned
From every match I used to play

And though I left the pitch behind
The game never left my heart
Some stories don’t really end
They just learn a different part

Under the floodlights
I still hear the crowd somehow
Different seat, different view
But I still feel it now

Under the floodlights
Those memories still call
Life can change a thousand things
But not those nights at all

Rain on the grass
Lights in the sky
Salt on the air
And the years rolling by

Under the floodlights
I’ll always be that kid
Chasing one more ball
Across the field we never quit
